Things I did so far:

Setup static names for hosts on my router
Edit /etc/hosts file on my ubuntu machine to show ip and name of the machine

so using routers dhcp server is not so good you recommend i switch to pihole dhcp server?

If you can't change the router's DHCP behavior, then yes.

I have netgear r7000 i set static ip for all my hosts I also set same ips and names in /etc/hosts on my pihole/ubuntu machine. Question is if I have to change any thing else?

Is it working? Did you change to Pi-hole's DHCP?
