Pihole doesnt block ads but dashboard says it is

Expected Behaviour:

block ads on smart tv (netflix, hulu, hbo ect.) The tv is a Sony, and I have a netgear router.

Actual Behaviour:

The pihole dashboard looks like its blocking ads and receiving queries and things like that, but the ads are still shown on the streaming ads. Im pretty new to things like this, but running the debug command there is a line that states "error while sending router solicitation on wlan0: network unreachable" which I feel might be the problem but I havent been able to fix it. I believe I have the DNS set up to go through the pihole and I have the dhcp that pihole offers turned on and it all seems to be working but im not getting ads blocked.

A lot of that stuff can't be blocked on DNS level just like YouTube Ads for example so your best bet is to check if you can disable some EULA stuff either for the TV itself or those streaming services in which you accept ads/adware/spyware/telemetry/statistics/etc. that are fired at you!

To echo what nero355 has said. Pi-hole is a DNS and as such can 'choose to NOT resolve' an entire domain. If ads are served from the same domain, blocking ads blocks content. This is true for almost all 'embedded' apps on a smart TV, tablet or phone. Pi-hole doesn't 'see' any of the data AFTER the initial domain lookup, therefore has no ability to do anything to affect the content.
