We had a power outage for a few hours back in June. Ever since then, I've been having an issue on my iPhone where ads are no longer being blocked in the ntv app. I'm also seeing ads again on macrumors.com. Ad blocking still works perfectly on all my other devices.
Does anyone have an idea what could be causing this? Out of several iPads, iPhones, etc., this only affects this one device.
On your iPhone, go to Settings/iCloud/Private Relay and see if that's enabled; this setting will redirect your DNS queries, bypassing Pihole. Note, I think this feature is only available to iCloud+ users, so the setting may not be visible (in which case it is not enabled).
Is the device on your network or on its mobile network or VPN? Is the device in the correct Group in Pi-hole, if you are using that management feature?
Yes, Private Relay is disabled. It’s also assigned to the correct group in Pi-hole, and the correct MAC address (which I’ve already renewed) is configured.
The strange thing is that it works while I’m on vacation in Spain, both on the hotel Wi-Fi and over mobile data (via VPN). But as soon as I’m back in Germany, it stops working.
On your iPhone, what DNS addresses show up for the SSID you're connecting with? Does it match your Pihole IP address? Might provide some clues as to what's going on.
