Is it worth upgrading to raspberry pi 2 or 3 for pi-hole? Will I see any speed increase?
I run my Pi-hole from a B+, and have a dev one on a Zero, and they run really quick. The only thing that would become faster with an upgraded pi would be the web interface data loading speed, since that is currently the most intensive thing that Pi-hole handles. However, when this Python rewrite gets ready, the web interface should be quicker (it uses a database).
i ve heard that the raspberry pi 3 or 2 has low energy costs compared to the rpi1
edit:
i was wrong its reversed like @DanSchaper said:
so the web interface will be running with python ?? instead of php?
that make sense but what about php7 and the compatibility?
It's actually reversed. The Pi 3 and Pi 2 take more power than an original Pi. Put it on a meter and you can see the resting state Volt and Amp readings. There is definite bump in wattage consumption.
Nothing has been firmly decided upon yet. When we have more information we will share. But until then, we are just testing alpha code with no announced dates for deployment.
And I think there's an update version of that with the v3 if Alex posted it finally. The 2 is getting a refresh (should be out this month) that takes the SoC from the 3 and clocks it down to match the 2 specs and drops the SoC the 2 used to use.
