I would argue that this is not a good thing. There are many updates over the course of 9 months and there will be those that require the system to reboot .
Personally I run unattended upgrades to catch security updates and then manually do updates once a weeks. Unattended updates sends an email to the pi user and it if needs a reboot I can see it in the mail message header. Alternatively you can check to see if /var/run/reboot-required exists ( atleast I think thats still valid ).
