What is 172.17.0.1

Hi,

I just installed pi-hole and a Rasbian on a Raspi 4 for the first time. All versions news are the latest. I used docker and portainer. pi-hole is up and running. I was wondering why 172.17.0.1 goes online all the time as pi-hole show in recent queries?

172.17.0.2 is portainer itself
172.17.0.3 is SyncThing
172.17.0.4 is pi-hole

so what ist 172.17.0.1 and what is it sending or pulling?

That's likely the IP of Docker's internal gateway for its bridge network.

But why is this IP constantly reaching for the github site?

As said, it's Docker's gateway for its bridge network.
As such, it is NATing traffic between your networks, i.e. it is the gateway for all traffic from your private home network to a container within that internal bridge network and vice versa.

So when my RASPI4 is reaching for the internet for an raspian update for example it uses my internal address of 192.168.2.9 and when docker on the RASPI is reaching out it's 172.17.0.1?

I thought it's always the IP of the device and not the IP of a software which is seen in pi-hole and used in the local network?
