Is there any documentation about using the groups option to bypass pihole filtering of selected clients? I think I have it set up correctly but am not entirely sure.

Note that you should look at the PR code in general, not at individual commits. I went back and forth trying to find the best way to explain things. This will be squashed later. It'll be unnecessarily harder for you if you try understanding it only from there one commit you linked.
Understood. There was enough in the commit for me to figure things out. For my needs I just wanted 2 clients to bypass the pihole filtering while still using DHCP. This fits the bill perfectly. Great work!
