tp link er8411 and pihole

i can not for the life of me figure out how to make it work.

I have tried on a vm i have tried in docker . it keeps coming back with cannot use ip as dns due to it being in a ip range.

any ideals from the collective? and the archer fix is not workable as its a very different menu and the er8411 is missing many of the menus needed to get to that solution

thanks

Did you try in a Linux or Windows machine?

everything i have is linux . i suppose i should have mentioned that but didnt think it relevant

This seems like a duplicate, see Can't setup network-wide DNS because of router - #8 by Bucking_Horn.

That would be a negative.. as i stated that fix is not possible on the er8411 as it is a very different firmware and menus as i understand it most if not all the answers I've seen are for consumer level products with limited features the er8411 is at minimum prosumer maybe even lowbend buisness class device which has very different feature set..

Maybe I need to be clearer

I have 4 vlans x.x.0.x , x.x.1.x , x.x.3.x , x.x.10.x

majority of my network is static ip

Info set pi hole with am out if network ip it gets no connection to wan

Ifni set pihole ip within network I get “ this ip conflicts with the lan ip subnet. To use this dns server set it at lan>lan>network list

Now issue is most of my stuff does not show up on any network lists because they only list dhcp ips .. now the vlan the dns is on is mostly servers so probably dosent need dhcp at all so is shutting dhcp off the solution?

Just spent a couple days and got it working just the way I wanted. I have similar setup with

  1. TP-Link ER605: Handling the routing, trunks, and firewall.
  2. Netgear GS308E: Handling the managed switching and management VLAN shift.
  3. TP-Link AX3000: Handling the multiples SSID-to-VLAN mapping.
  4. Pi-holes: Handling the global ad-blocking

Both my Pi-holes (RPi and PC w/Ubuntu) running Unbound and WireGuard. I don’t use docker or VM. It’s possible.

Good Luck

Apparently this is a newer model and you will need to ask for help on TP-link forums.

It seems it might be best to consult the device's documentation or manufacturer support if your skill level does not yet match the capabilities of the device you are using. Either of these should be able to guide you on the correct way to handle network segmentation on your device, and how to pass certain classes such as DHCP or DNS between VLANs.
