with this computer I can not access pi-hole.net due to a ssl certificate error 56
says cloud is ok, but pi-hole is down. a week now.

it seems I can not install software with out using the software manager.
about 10 days ago, I did connect to pi-hole.net and ran the command line.
at the end pi-hole did not work.
tried several reboots.

Ideas will be much appreciated. I'm a new user to Linux - try 8 days.
Windows finally did me in with all their advertising.
I have a learning curve.
thank you for ideas and help.

Are you using an official linux distribution such as Ubuntu or Debian?

Linux Mint – Ubuntu + customizations and fixes. Very nice distribution. Has a user guide here.
this is link to site https://linuxmint.com/

thanks Arctic / Dale

So you tried installing Pi-hole, and it failed, and now you are having trouble connecting to HTTPS sites?

sorry did not answer all your questions
pi-hole is not installed at this time
it took me 5 tries to get a stable Linux -
main cause this nut behind the wheel....

now I ca not get to pi - hole error 56 re ssl certificate
and site (pi-hole) is not on my software manager list.

I do not know how to down load pi-hole code, put it on a usb and run it under software
manager at this time.

some day, maybe even this year?

thanks

An SSL error is not a Pi-hole error, so other places would have more relevant information for your distro.

Once you get SSL working, you can install Pi-hole via:

curl -sSL https://install.pi-hole.net | bash

You might need to run this to fix the SSL errors:

apt-get install ca-certificates
apt-get install ca-certificates (your line matches mine)
arctic@Mint-1-8200-Elite-CMT-PC ~ $ apt-get install ca-certificates
E: Could not open lock file /var/lib/dpkg/lock - open (13: Permission denied)
E: Unable to lock the administration directory (/var/lib/dpkg/), are you root?
arctic@Mint-1-8200-Elite-CMT-PC ~ $ y
y: command not found
arctic@Mint-1-8200-Elite-CMT-PC ~ $

root - this is a new one...

I'm definitely a newby...

thanks

sudo apt-get install ca-certificates

arctic@Mint-1-8200-Elite-CMT-PC ~ $ sudo apt-get install ca-certificates

What happened?

The origin web server does not have a valid SSL certificate.
What can I do?

thanks for the help
still trying on this end

What date is set on your server, if the date is off you won't be able to authenticate any certificates.

Are you still seeing this issue?

I am, sadly.

Are you able to connect to any HTTPS sites?

and then

bash basic-install.sh

if either of these commands fail, try to run them with sudo
