Social (snapchat/tiktok) correctly blocks in browser queries, not the app

I'm loving Pi-Hole, awesome system that works like a charm. A big thank you to the community and development team.

My issue: I'm trying to block/unblock social media access for my teenage daughter on certain timeslots and on demand. I've used a cron script to add and remove the correct devices from a group blocking all socials, but this seemed to make my Raspberry Pi more unstable.

Easiest solution for me is to simply use an app (Pi-hole Remote for iOs) and switch the blocking on and off for specific socials. Strange thing happens though:
Block enabled correctly blocks snapchat.com for example in the browser, but using the iOs app it still works fine. On the browser on the phone it is blocked again so the routing of the phone traffic is correctly going through Pi-hole.

Do mobile apps automatically revert to cellular networks when something is blocked? Do these apps switch servers so fast that the blocklists can't keep up? I'm really just trying to understand.
