Recommended routers to modify dns/dhcp

This is both a broad yet niche question. I tried lurking around here to see if the existing topics have what I need, but my inexperience leaves me a little lost…

I recently got Pihole up and running yesterday and now my next step is linking it to my router (or making an unbound server…). However, my router is ATT and I can’t modify it. I tried all the existing guides, but that basically broke my WiFi like 6 times trying to fiddle with DHCP in different ways to no avail.

So, my next plan is to get a new router (which will either be direct replacement or have the ATT router stream through that one) that will allow me to advertise my pihole ip, and more freely allows modding of the dns server and dhcp directly in the router. Then link pihole through there. Is there a recommended one or type I should look for in search queries?

Just for some further details, I currently have Pihole running through a wireless connection on a Docker Desktop container on Windows 11. That host machine already has a static ip based on the WiFi ip found in “ipconfig” on that same machine. I currently have Quad9 and Cloudflare listed as the upstream servers.
