Recommendation for Specifying Secondary and Tertiary DNS

I've installed Pi-hole on a Raspberry Pi 4 using all the defaults. It was a rather painless installation. Kudos to the developers who made that happen.

However, my router (Netgear C7100V) requires that when I specify a DNS address, I also have to specify a secondary and a tertiary address—and they all have to be different. I've read a number of responses on here—some of them got rather heated—but it wasn't quite clear to me what is the right thing to do. I don't want to create two other Pi-hole servers, although I could.

Please advise.

can you put in IP's that don't exist in 2nd and 3rd field (0.0.0.0 for example)?

Is that the DNS server your router sends out to DHCP requests? or the DNS server the router uses?

I can’t put in 0.0.0.0, the router says it is an invalid DNS address.

I’m not quite sure what your second question is. My router is also my DHCP server.
