It seems the rate limit is a all or none feature. I would request that a whitelist bypass feature be added. The feature works great on devices that phone home but for others that need to make constant requests it frustrating the IP get blocked for x amount of time.
You have the option of changing (or eliminating) your rate limit.
I understand that. I want to hold the current default settings just have one or two ips bypass it.
I changed the name of your request to clarify what is requested.
I agree, this would be a great feature. My windows clients get blocked all the time because I have to set a low limit to stop the TV from causing a general DNS slowdown. So annoying!
I would like to join this request for a whitelist or client-specific rate limit.
Yes, we have the option to set a higher or lower general rate-limit in the settings, but this “one-door-fits-all” concept, or even as suggested eliminating the rate-limit for everyone, contradicts the reasoning behind having this feature in the first place, which is to reign in misbehaving clients, while letting everything else work as they are supposed to.
What is a normal behavior for a router, firewall etc. is a wild behavior for other devices, if someone happens to address the pihole directly.
Thanks for the consideration and have a nice day!
+1 for per client whitelisting.
Please use the vote button, we'll see the FR's listed with vote counts but not the comments doing +1's.
