Port 53 used by FTL and yet DNS service not running

https://tricorder.pi-hole.net/uNyktVAi/

DNSMASQ_CONFIG: FTL failed to start due to failed to create listening socket for port 53: Address already in use

Under Settings>System FTL Information is populated

Yet Raspbian reports DNS service is NOT running.

Updating Gravity also ends with DNS service NOT running

There are no outright issue pointers in your debug log, but some irregularities, e.g. it wasn't able to determine a default gateway, and it shows pihole-FTL as not running, while it was perfectly able to pass name resolution tests.

What hardware are you running your Pi-hole on?
Would that involve some layer of virtualisation?

Yeah, its a lineageOS s10 plus with raspbian on linux deploy.

I got it to work though, simply by hammering the restart dns resolver button until the error went away. Haven't restarted the phone or the app yet.

I hope the problem doesnt come back.

I see - you are trying to get Pi-hole running on a smartphone.
We've received a few not very promising reports of attempts to operate Pi-hole on smartphones.

It would seem that OS virtualisation software on Android is not well equipped to host Pi-hole (maybe because it would require elevated rights and full network access, and Android's sandboxing model somehow interferes, but that would just be my guess).

As I recall it, similar reports here on our forum for running Pi-hole under Android have yet to find a successful conclusion.

In some cases, the reports involved a Pi-hole app downloaded from some kind of specialised store or software repository. In case you've been considering that approach: Those apps have not been created or endorsed by the Pi-hole team - the official ways to install Pi-hole on a supported OS can be found here .
