So, I've poked through a few pages of searches and can't find anything that is clearly similar, but after completely replacing my RPi4 with the RPi3 that worked for 2+ years without issue to fix my previous issue, I'm now encountering a fun new one... PiHole FTL seems to be shutting down or stopping at seemingly arbitrary intervals (it happens between 2-4 times a day).
Whatever is going on seems to fix itself when I refresh the admin console when connected through a wired internet connection.
Expected Behaviour:
PiHole operates as a DHCP/DNS server without service interruption.
Actual Behaviour:
PiHole FTL is "shutting down" several times in a day.
If you are using FTL 5.19.1 (see bottom of web interface or do pihole -v), that had a bug which would make it crash. It was fixed in FTL 5.19.2, so run pihole -up to get the latest version.
If you are already running the latest version then a dev will look at your debug log and see if anything looks out of place.
Hey there, I have a very similar problem only to resolve it i have to restart the DNS resolver.
If the crash happens I have no connection to the internet and so I can't generate a token with the crashed system. After restarting the DNS resolver I generated a token (https://tricorder.pi-hole.net/L6nyxgxV/), maybe this can help somehow.
This behavior started after the last update of PiHole
