Pihole and Home Assistant on one Pi

Heya, I have one raspberry pi 3B+ and I see that pihole uses minimal resources on this device. So I would like to also install Home Assistant on the same device.

Does anyone have tips or how-to's to make both web-interfaces available and make sure that both systems don't bug each other?

Thnx!

I found that HA would cripple a RPI3, and it would overwhelm the cpu's.. My experience was that you need at least a RPI4. Moreover getting a RP3 to boot from a ssd is a trick. That said, I still use my PiB to run pihole without any problems at all.

Ah yeah, is HA thát resource intensive?
Pity... Maybe I could run both also on that Synology NAS I have here... But I'd have to familiarize myself with containers and docker probably...

Why would you need to boot from SSD? Or should I move over to HA forums for these questions?

HA is a developing program and is growing rapidly. If you, for example, attempt to re compile the esp-home extensions, it will crash. You have to run it from a ssd because of the sheer number of rw cycles. A micro sd card will rapidly fail. But pihole runs almost entirely in resident memory and does not make many writes to the card at all. My piB is more that ten years old and still uses the same card. Were I you I'd investigate the SBC you have and deal with the containers for HA. Invest in a modern ssd, it can be 128GB and HA will be very happy with it.

thnx for all the tips and pointers!

Indeed, I have PH also running on my Pi for many years now. With my friend I even installed it on the first model Pi and it has been running for many years without any issues.

I will try the NAS for HomeAssistant then and use their forum for further questions.

Thnx!
