The blog post "Pi-hole and OPNsense" at https://pi-hole.net/blog/2021/09/30/pi-hole-and-opnsense/ says at the end "Next blog post will show how to enable Unbound on the OPNsense router to use as Pi-hole’s upstream DNS server." but that doesn't seem to have been published. Is it available somewhere or maybe still coming?
BTW, I see that the blog post states that it may/will not work, but I'm trying to adapt the ideas/concepts to the current versions I'm running.
I can't answer for the author of the post, but I don't think there will be any follow up on this matter.
That post is outdated.
It was published more than 3 years ago and it shows a note in very big letters:
NOTE: This guide is likely outdated and based on an older OPNsense version. The ideas and concepts may still work but the actual implementation may/will not.
I think you will need to find a different/newer source.
