Pi-Hole - VPN and IP change

Hey

First i'm new to this.
I set up a RaspberryPi 2gen. with Jessy Lite, PiVPN and Pi-Hole for blocking Ads. Works perfect for me so far but now my Router makes a disconnect and got a new IP, so i'm Not able to connect to my VPN. I do not use a dynDNS. So is there a way that the VPN Server and the Client can get a refresh for the new IP?

I Hope someone out there can help me.

DynDNS etc. is exactly what you are looking for in this scenario. It is the only way to go, there is no other (easy + straightforward) way to get the server's IP to all of your clients.

I thought about DynDNS but i'm Not sure wich one to use. Do you think it is possible with the DynDNS wich is included with FritzBox and the MyFritz Account?

Unfortunately, I cannot comment on this. I own a full domain entry and can generate as much subdomains as I want for doing what I need, so I was never in the need of getting some dynDNS from some provider.

You should be able to find plenty information in every language you prefer (like German :wink: )

I will give it a try with the fritzbox DynDNS. When it works for me I will give some feedback here. But there is one more question. My VPN and Pi-Hole is allready in use, so how can I change from Puplic IP to DNS?

You mean in the OpenVPN server? Have a look at the official Pi-hole OpenVPN wiki.

@Select25 I would go for AVMs own free DynDNS service MyFritz, because other "free" DynDNS services annoy you from time to time to confirm your domain on their website if you want to use them for free. All variants are very well documented in AVMs "Wissensdatenbank" for any product (e.g. 7390). like @DL6ER I have no need for a DynDNS anymore, but I have used it for a VPN (iOS) a while ago - it worked pretty well for me.

First, thanks for your help here :slight_smile:
I've created a MyFritz Account and made a new installation of PiVPN and Pi-Hole on my Raspberry.
I made all the needed settings like UDP and in the Point when it comes to choose the Settings for Puplic IP or DNS, i take the DNS setting and put in the URL the MyFritz Account gave me like "https://createturl.myfritz.net"
After the setup is finished and create a user for my iPhone, i sent the .opvn file to my Phone and try to open it up with the OpenVPN app, but it won't connect. The app tries to search for the DNS but it seems to be not available.

I made something wrong, i put in the https:// in the adress line in the Setup. I've changed it to "createdurl.myfritz.net" and it works like a charm now :slight_smile:
