Pi-Hole fails to install, Internet stopped working

Please follow the below template, it will help us to help you!

Expected Behaviour:

Run the curl command, direct machine to IP address as DNS server, sit back and enjoy ad-free surfing.

Actual Behaviour:

Pi-hole fails to complete installation. Now Internet on the RP doesn't work. Error message says 'DNS resolution not available.' Internet was working immediately prior to running the curl command, which is how I downloaded it.

Debug Token:

Upload through SSL failed. Local copy failed to save in the Pihole log folder. I have photos of the scripts while installing, however. Error messages state the following:

[x] Root user check
script called with non-root privileges
The Pi-hole requires elevated privileges to install and run
Please check the installer for any concerns regarding this requirement
Make sure to download this script from a trusted source

...

[x] Check for existing repository in /etc/.pihole

...

[x] Check for existing repository in /var/www/html/admin

...

[x] DNS resolution is currently unavailable.

Other notes: The time on my RP shows 8 hours ahead. I tried to change time manually, but it didn't take.

The next thing I expect the RP to tell me is to "ID 10 - T error. step away from the keyboard."

Got time/date working. DNS still not resolving. Ping to 8.8.8.8 works, but ping to google.com does not.

Went into Netgear router and disabled the OpenDNS filtering. Pressed "apply," and now Internet works again. Unsure whether to re-install Pi-Hole or remove some files first before trying again.

OK, final message for this thread. The OpenDNS filtering at the router level was interfering with the Pi-Hole install. I have successfully installed Pi-Hole at this point. Next step is to get OpenDNS working again and to have Pi-Hole doing the adblocking. Thanks, self.

I got it working. The only thing is, even using OpenDNS as my upstream (or whatever it’s called on the Pi), I don’t get filtering anymore. I get their security filtering (www.internetbadguys.com), but I can still access www.exampleadultsite.com.

Do you know how to get the content filtering back in place so I have both the ad blocking and the content filtering?

Use the OpenDNS on the pi and in your OpenDNS account update the network ip to your current ip.

Cool. I hope to get that done this week. Thanks.

Great. I'll figure out how to do that. And I'll make a donation soon.
