Overkill or acceleration - pihole/unbound/squid/tailscale

Q
Is it over kill or could it optimize web traffic and load times.

notion
running squid software between pihole and its complimentary appetizers and tailscale

thought proccess
my current setup is pihole-unbound with tailscale-exit node, and i already have the tailscale optimized but i want to optimize it more, but could introducing squid to my setup cause to much querying or would it come down to my network. Has anyone ran this type of setup

OS
OS RPI5, pihole running on its own

Your answers would heavily depend on what you try to optimise and on your network operations, e.g. if you ran a TV, a door cam, an iPhone and a Windows PC, then you won't gain much, as each of those devices is likely to access different sites, i.e. chances of proxy cache hits are considerably smaller than with a number of users of same type devices.

You should also be aware of that HTTPS content cannot be proxied if certificate pinning is employed (as major streaming services like Netflix may do). Respective services may thus disagree with being used via proxying software.

That said, nothing of the above has to do with Pi-hole, so I'd encourage you to consult forums specialising in networking as well as squid proxy support for detailed advice.
