Im using nord vpn on my pc i have pointed the dns on nord to my route example 192.168.10.1 updated my pi hole which has over 5 millions block lists but have noticed its not blocking porn sites example on the block list it shows pornhub.com but still not blocking it if i disable nord pi hole blocks it fine
VPN prividers commonly force redirection of DNS requests to their own DNS servers in order to prevent DNS leakages. It would depend on your specific VPN client software whether it would allow a custom DNS server to evade that redirection.
You should enquire with NordVPN's support on details for if and how that would be possible with their VPN service.
