No internet connection with pihole

The issue I am facing: I have Pi Hole set up along side Pi VPN using unbound on a linode running a Unbutu 20.04. However I can not get my Pi Hole to connect to the internet when using it as a DNS.

Unbound isn't listening on the IP address you have configured for the upstream:

PIHOLE_DNS_1=<PUBLIC_IP>#3355
