I remembered many years again that if I wanted to see requests ‘per device’, that I had to use my pi-hole also as a DHCP server. Is this still the case? Thanks in advance.

You have 2 options:
Configure your router LAN/DHCP settings to advertise Pi-hole IP as DNS servers. Note: this must be done in LAN settings, not in WAN settings.
Use Pi-hole as DHCP server. Pi-hole will automatically advertise its IP as DNS server.
Ah, thanks. Looks like pi-hole has improved a lot over the years. It didn't use to track individual devices years ago when configured as #1. Progress !
