Moving the Pi-hole log to another location/device

I am attempting to move my Pi-Hole log to a USB HDD to extend the life of my SD card. Following the FAQ by @DL6ER located here:

I'm guessing this guidance is now out of date as there is no dnsmasq service running on my Pi (believe this may have been replaced with FTLDNS) and the Pihole.log file referenced looks different to the example given (mine has an additional section for pihole-FTL.log).

Just wondering whether this guide needs an update as it was from 2017, and if so can anybody explain which parts need to change?

For reference I am running:
Pi-hole Version v4.4
Web Interface Version v4.3.3
FTL Version v4.3.1
Distro = DietPi 6.28.0

The FAQ was written for an earlier version of Pi-hole, where dnsmasq did run as a separate process. Dnsmasq is now embedded in pihole-FTL.

Where the guide specifies stop/start commands for dnsmasq, substitute pihole-FTL for dnsmasq.

sudo service pihole-FTL start , etc.

Doesn't DietPi already do logging to RAM, intended to minimize SD card writes?

So it does, thanks for saving me a lot of wasted time :rofl:

I see you have already updated the FAQ so I guess at least there was some benefit to be gained from my ignorance!
