The amount of effort I need to expend to set up something to accept crypto has been far more than the fractions of a dollar/euro/pound than we've received through crypto.
My guess is i am completely unaware of what it takes to set this up but, what stops you from just creating a monero wallet and adding a QR code to the website to accept donations to it? Similar to something like accrescent donate page.
The biggest issue is the legal requirements. We are not a charitable organization so all donations are taxable to both the donor and to us. Everything has to be accounted for and taxes paid to the governmental agency that demands a portion of our work for their various ways of wasteful spending. I don't think anyone has used the crypto options we have now and crypto donations from other means are all for the equivalent of less than $1. I have to manually process the donation and then update the accounting books and justify the accounting to the tax preparers.
I'm open to accepting crypto but it's a loss for us unless I consider my time to be free.
To clarify a bit, I'm not against crypto. If there's a way to do it that is easier then I'm for it. I need to follow up and move off our existing donor app and it would be nice to have crypto as a first class method with a new system.
It feels like crypto isn't what it used to be, it's an investment now, people are HODL'ing it, hoping for another 10000% jump in value. And I'm not shitting on people that have donated with crypto, any amount of donation is helpful and very appreciated.
