alrighty so ive been a avid user of Pi-hole for ages so when i saw the big flashing red update button right at the end of the admin page i was like, oh sweet i wonder what glorious things they added
well... they did add alot and they are useful features especially with the environment i use Pi-hole in and its running great now but sadly t̶h̶e̶y̶ ̶b̶e̶ ̶b̶u̶g̶s̶ ̶n̶o̶w̶,̶ ̶l̶i̶k̶e̶ ̶a̶l̶o̶t̶ ̶o̶f̶ ̶b̶u̶g̶s̶,̶ ̶a̶s̶ ̶i̶n̶ ̶m̶o̶r̶e̶ ̶b̶u̶g̶s̶ ̶t̶h̶a̶n̶ ̶a̶ ̶r̶o̶a̶c̶h̶ ̶m̶o̶t̶e̶l̶ <-- (fresh install solved it)
so after fighting with the new fangled embedded web server for the last 4 hours i can get it to reliable connect most of the time, b̶u̶t̶ ̶o̶n̶l̶y̶ ̶f̶r̶o̶m̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶ ̶m̶a̶c̶h̶i̶n̶e̶s̶ ̶i̶p̶,̶ ̶i̶f̶ ̶i̶ ̶u̶s̶e̶ ̶i̶t̶s̶ ̶d̶o̶m̶a̶i̶n̶ ̶n̶a̶m̶e̶ ̶i̶ ̶g̶i̶f̶t̶e̶d̶ ̶i̶t̶,̶ ̶i̶t̶ ̶j̶u̶s̶t̶ ̶l̶o̶o̶p̶s̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶ ̶l̶o̶g̶i̶n̶ ̶p̶a̶g̶e̶ ̶o̶v̶e̶r̶ ̶n̶ ̶o̶v̶e̶r̶ ̶w̶i̶t̶h̶ ̶m̶y̶ ̶b̶r̶o̶w̶s̶e̶r̶ ̶f̶l̶a̶s̶h̶i̶n̶g̶ ̶r̶e̶d̶ ̶a̶t̶ ̶m̶e̶ ̶s̶a̶y̶i̶n̶g̶ ̶i̶t̶s̶ ̶a̶ ̶f̶a̶k̶e̶ ̶s̶i̶t̶e̶ ̶l̶o̶l̶ ̶b̶e̶c̶a̶u̶s̶e̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶ ̶s̶e̶l̶f̶ ̶s̶i̶g̶n̶e̶d̶ ̶c̶e̶r̶t̶ ̶i̶s̶n̶t̶ ̶w̶o̶r̶t̶h̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶ ̶v̶i̶r̶t̶u̶a̶l̶ ̶p̶a̶p̶e̶r̶ ̶i̶t̶s̶ ̶w̶r̶i̶t̶t̶e̶n̶ ̶o̶n̶ ̶a̶n̶d̶ ̶i̶ ̶c̶a̶n̶ ̶l̶i̶v̶e̶ ̶w̶i̶t̶h̶ ̶t̶h̶a̶t̶ <-- (also fixed with fresh install)
but what is absurd is Pi-hole isnt compatible with half gig ram anymore, nor 1gb, or even 1.5gb now it takes at minimum 2gb to get the thing installed properly and for it to update gravity, for context i do have 3.7 million domains blocked but thats the same amount i had on v5 an with 512mb of ram gravity flew through that list faster than neo flew around the matrix - so sure i grabbed a couple of 2gb AWS machines in the meantime until hopefully the rock bottom ram requirements make a come back
the icing on the cake was PiVPN not installing because it cant find pi-holes setup vars file anymore, since that isnt a thing anymore >.> (which i know isnt pi-holes problem but i did rage quit the ssh terminal after that xD) i can see me installing v5 again, v6 aint it right now <-- (this got updated so now it also works)
A minimum of 1 GB RAM should be enough for very large Gravity Lists according to an earlier Pi-Hole v6 Beta discussion in a topic that I was reading like a week ago or so !!
PiVPN is EOL so you should consider replacing that anyway since it's no longer maintained !!
Since you are having weird issues you might want to wait for a developer to drop by and ask you for a fresh debug log upload
PiVPN's github, it's far from EOL - infact just today there was an update to allow it to install with pihole v6 (i raised a ticket on their github and 48 hours later it was updated and fixed)
for the rest of my issues quite afew others are also experiencing similar things from what I've seen of the recent posts here and the issue page of pi-holes github
i managed to do some temporary workarounds to get gravity to build reliably on 512mb instances thanks to a suggestion someone made on pi-holes github relating to swap size, so i took mine to the extreme of 8gb and now its stable (im sure less would've worked but i just wanted to never have build problems again xD AWS defaults to 0gb swap on lightsail instances, i never knew that before) - web gui is still slow but im slowly getting used to waiting on it
i can use my domain name again thanks to just booting up fresh instances and doing all fresh installs of pi hole, so something with the upgrade didnt work i guess, so i will retract my earlier statement of they be bugs, there is less now but maybe its just quirks
just remind me to never update 30 mins after the next major version goes live lol - was not ready for all this linux faffing, V7 when it eventually comes out im so waiting a month before updating
