New to this forum. Been using Pi-hole successfully for a year or more but recently switched to a Linksys Velop router. I realize that this issue is more than likely not a Pi-hole problem, per se, but wondered if any others had similar problem. With Pi-hole configured and running, as soon as I set Velop's DNS to the local Pi-hole address the Velop misbehaves. LED turns red (no internet) even though there is internet connectivity and I am no longer able to access the Velop's configuration page - unknown WAN error. This is a reproducible problem and the only way to "fix" it is to reset the Velop and start over without Pi-hole. I thought it might be DHCP related and tried the Pi-hole as the DHCP server without success. All works fine (Pi-hole running as DHCP server) until I change DNS settings on Velop. Called Linksys support 3 times and all they have me do is reset and remove Pi-hole.
It isn't really clear to me: When you router starts to misbehave - does the Internet still work for al the other machines on the network (i.e. you can reach everything except your router's control interface)?
Correct. Internet works fine. Just GUI for Velop that quits. I've now added a few things to the Pi-hole whitelist to see if this helps. Thank you.
Are you setting the WAN DNS or the LAN DNS?
LAN. I have now added to the Pi-hole whitelist some of the linksys domains to seem to be needed by the Velop. Going to see if this has any effect.
