Latest pihole update not working on pi with Jitsi nginx server installed

The issue I am facing:
I had a version of pihole that was too old to auto-update so did a fresh install and now have the latest version.

On my pi I am also hosting a Jitsi (video call software) server with nginx. There were no issues with the prior pihole installation.

  1. Since install my laptop no longer has internet access with the DNS set to my pi's local IP
  2. I can no longer access the admin dashboard via my browser (previously was LOCAL_IP:8000/admin).

After debugging I noticed some potential errors surrounding ports so I changed the pihole port to 8081 from 8080 in etc/pihole/pihole.toml but this hasn't fixed the issue.

IP:8081 or 8443 don't load in browser.

Each of https://IP, IP/admin, https://pi.hole and https://pi.hole/admin all direct to the Jitsi homepage I'm hosting.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Debug Token:
https://tricorder.pi-hole.net/VHrhMsHo/

Your debug log shows your Pi-hole IP is 192.168.1.5.

It also shows Pi-hole web server is using ports 8081 and 8443:

[✓] tcp:0.0.0.0:8443 is in use by pihole-FTL
...
[✓] tcp:0.0.0.0:8081 is in use by pihole-FTL

Can you access the web interface using one of the links below?

No they're both just stuck loading without going anywhere.

Please post nginx configuration.

Also the output of sudo iptables -L -t nat and sudo iptables -L

Thanks

We need the bindings in sites-enabled. cat /etc/nginx/sites-enabled/*

On first glance, it looks like you aren't allowing the ports that pi-hole's trying to use in ufw. Either try using port 8000 again, or try this temporarily and see if pi-hole is accessible: sudo ufw allow from any to any port 8080 then browse to http://192.168.1.5:8080/admin

Something java related to Jitsi uses port 8080 so I changed the port to 8081 in pihole.toml. Your command with 8081 allowed me to access the dashboard though, thank you!

I also didn't have an upstream DNS configured but added that now.

By temporary do you mean it will reset on reboot or is it insecure and there's a better permanent change I can make to allow port 8081 in ufw?

Glad to hear it's accessible.

Whether something is secure or not is quite contextual, I'd say it's fine. Ufw rules persist on reboot, so it's not temporary, no. I wasn't sure if you were going to change the port back to 8000.
