Is my PiHole 'freezing'? DNS time outs, page not found, hanging 'waiting for...'

I'm using a TP-Link 4G modem (ISP using CGNAT), a DD-WRT router (DHCP) with PiHole running on a Pi4. I use static IP addresses.

This is an odd one, a periodic error. It may not even be a PiHole problem. Occassionally, web browsing just freezes and/or I'll get DNS related errors. I can ping the web sites when it's happening. Looking at the modem, no data is being transmitted during the freeze. Internal network traffic is uneffected. Equally, external downloads (ftp etc) continue. Sometimes, it resolves itself after a minute or so of waiting but usually I have to reboot the modem to resolve. I can go days without it happening, sometimes it'll happen 4 or 5 times a day. Restarting PiHole doesn't fix it. Rebooting the Pi doesn't fix. Rebooting the router doesn't fix. Only rebooting the modem fixes.

I'd appreciate someone having a quick look at the debug log to see if anything looks wrong.

Nothing appears in your debug log that would contribute to this problem.

Check these logs for any error messages:

/var/log/pihole.log

/var/log/pihole-FTL.log

/var/log/syslog

Thanks, that's what I thought - nothing leaps out as wrong. Next time it happens, I'll have a look at those logs.

If I had to guess, I'd say it was CGNAT related. I say that because these problems only started occuring when I changed from ADSL to a 4G LTE connection. Frustrating.
