My WLAN ran a pihole / unbound / DHCP service setup on a dedicated SBC which is quite old, running ubuntu, bionic release. I'm well aware this is decrepit and unsupported; loath to try upgrading to some new ubuntu, for fear of bricking it for inadequate understanding. Not at all irrational considering. It's a type of device I've never flashed firmware for, by contrast to my experience with standard desktop / notebook machine upgrades. Also don't have access to the debug serial port used to reflash the OS.
The setup was fine to my purpose as of late December 2024. It had been kept up to date on the core and web dashboard components, while the FTL version lagged way behind the rest of it, due to incompatibilities with some aspect of the host OS (don't ask me). It could track what the host would support and didn't try to upgrade to the point of wrecking the lot.
When I installed v6 without a snapshot of the whole SBC for backup (senseless me :p) everything broke. Uninstalling went with no hitches that I can tell. I need to reinstall based on core 5.18.4, with whatever web front end and FTL will still play ball with that version. How to determine what those versions would be, particularly FTL? Spending money on this is not an option.
Thanks in advance for any thoughts.
