Installer user interface shows high bit characters

Installing on CentOS 7 via an SSH connection and VT100 terminal emulation, the installer does not display correctly and shows lots of high bit characters like these:

Impossible to input IP addresses without them getting scrambled. Is there a terminal emulation setting that is required?

Character set should be UTF-8.
