Igb1:network.mydomain.com request spamming pihole

Hi All,
I am using opnsense dnsmasq forwarding to pihole, using the advanced settings to forward client mac so I dont have to use conditional forwarding.

In pihole I am seeing my router spam pihole with requests for (over 16k in less than 24hrs)

igb1:network.mydomain.local

Both A and AAAA requests.

igb1 is not in use on my router and the network.mydomain.local is not a dns name I have configured on the router. It seems a strange request too, including the interface name?

Does anyone have any ideas?

Cheers

Please generate a debug log, upload it when prompted and post the token URL here.

Thank you

What is this DNS server?

PIHOLE_DNS_1=192.168.1.1#5353

That is my upstream unbound dns server on the router.
It is used to do DNS of TLS

It needs to be hosted on port 5353 as opnsense dnsmasq is on 53.

I have the same configuration as here Pi-hole and OPNsense – Pi-hole

There is nothing of concern in your debug log. Pi-hole is receiving queries and processing them correctly.

Ok thank you. It must be a opnsense issue.

Consider switching to a different port, and also to a different local domain, if that would indeed be local in your case:

Port 5353 as well as local are reserved for usage by the mDNS protocol.
