How to install Pihole v5 on Raspi-5?

One of my Pihole systems went down yesterday. It was a Raspberry Pi 3 B+ that is no longer functioning. I only have a Raspberry Pi 5 here as a replacement.

Unfortunately, the official link only offers the installation of Pihole v6. But since I need the graphical statistics from Pihole 5, that’s no use to me.

Where can I download the latest version of Pihole v5 for a fresh installation?

I am guessing that finding some old Docker Container of Pi-Hole v5 is your only option...

You want this Docker version - last of the V5 releases in Docker.

Thank you for the quick help.

Until now, I always made my way around the docker stuff and use a VirtualBox-VM if needed. So may be you can help me with a few questions.

  • Can I use the docker-pihole with ubuntu server without the graphic things?
  • Is docker-pihole automatically using the host IP address or do I need 2 addresses?
  • Usually I like to install the Raspberry PI OS. Is this also a option?
  • Is there anything else I need to keep in mind (e.g., PHP version) that depends on the operating system rather than on Docker?

I don't want to turn this problem into a long-term project. That's why I'm hoping for some help in setting up a simple, hassle-free foundation for the Docker container.

Everything is in the Docker AFAIK so you don't need anything inside the system itself.

The IP Address depends on your Docker setup : Host/Bridge/MACVLAN/etc.
IMHO MACVLAN is always the best, but feel free to do whatever feels right for you...

The OS you are going to use is entirely up to you too! :slight_smile:

Yes. Pi-hole doesn't need a Desktop interface.

That depends on how you configure your docker container, but you don't need a separate IP.

You can use any version. We usually recommend Raspberry Pi OS Lite (with no desktop environment).

No extra software is needed.
Every thing is shipped in the docker image.
