How Do I Revert To Version 5

I am extremely unhappy with almost everything about version 6 and want to revert back to version 5. Is there a guide on how to revert back?

I recommend using the backup you created prior to updating, as described in our release notes:

Upgrading and Getting Started

Bare Metal

Upgrading to Pi-hole v6 should be straightforward. For existing users, we recommend backing up your current configuration before proceeding, as the upgrade is strictly a one-way operation.

I had no idea this was a major update when I did the update so no backup was made

Did you forget to provide the backup instructions?

No. We don't provide backup instructions. These vary by OS, platform, etc. We assume that the user can backup the system running Pi-hole.

Updating to PiHole 6 was a huge mistake that I really regret, V6 has broken some of the features and made me dread interacting it.

I had bookmarks setup where I could quickly and easily view the query log for just one device:

10.0.1.200/admin/queries.php?client=10.0.1.218

I used this feature multiple times per day, I can't seem to find a way to generate a URL that gives me the same functionality.

I hate that login seems to last 2 minutes, in version 5 I would stay logged in for days, now I am forced to login over a dozen times a day.

I hate evrey single thing about the stupid gold filter bar. I hate the color. I hate that the dates are wrong, I hate that it's slow. I hate client IP's that I know exist and are sending traffic through the pihole aren't there.

I hate the distracting 4 different color boxes in the left hand panel.

I hate DHCP screen. I hate that all of my devices have always has their IP's assigned for an infinite time, and now some of them show an arbitrary lease time. I hate that some devices now have an IPV6 even though I have completely disabled all IPV6 functionality for every device.

I hate the flagrantly manipulative use of dark patterns in the UI to try and nudge me towards implementing HTTPS.

I hate that none of the developers cares about maintaining legacy URLs and didn't bother to setup internal redirects for the old bookmarked URLs.

I hate that multiple low traffic devices are now aggregated into "other clients" on the graph dashboard.

I hate that the temperature is gone from the upper left corner.

I hate that the setting screens keep reverting to "basic" after I have turned them to "expert".

I hate that some developer decided they had the authority to manage my network and gave pihole the ability to prune IP leases that put there very purposefully.

I hate the micro-sized and completely unreadable font used for the textbox in static DHCP configuration.

I can't think of a single thing that I think is better in V6

I hate that you didn't read the instructions, didn't make a backup, and then think that is everyone's problem except yours.

Most of the problems you describe are entirely subjective. Why don't you create a new theme with the colours you like and share it? Call it Troll_Light_Large_Text or something suitable.

As for the technical problems, please follow the help template.

What have you actually tried? It should be http://10.0.1.200/admin/queries?client_ip=10.0.1.218 (I worked this out by clicking on a client from the main dashboard)

It's 5 minutes. If you do nothing for 5 minutes, the session will time out. You could always remove the password if you don't like logging in repeatedly.

Also:

Settings > enable Expert Mode > Select All Settings on left side > Webserver & API tab > webserver.session.timeout ... choose whatever value you like

I've explained the dates to you, and I've also explained why they make no difference to the speed of loading the data. Whether you choose to take that knowledge on board is up to you. Colours are subjective.

We'll make sure the next release makes you a sandwich, too.

Sorry to hear that. Do you have some constructive criticism here or just announcing that you hate things?

What are you talking about here? What gets pruned? Under what conditions? News to me...

We've addressed that, too. We appreciate the new entry box isn't the best for everyone - we're working on a middle ground here.

I'll make sure to run every single commit by you before we release next so that we can make sure that you personally are happy before we release. If that's not enough, then lets see what we can do about refunding you for the enterprise support license you've paid for... oh wait.

What do you expect to achieve by listing everything you hate? If you don’t read the changelog carefully and with understanding, and don’t create a backup before updating, then no one can help you.

A simple step would have been to run pihole -v instead of pihole -up and see a v5.x.x to v6.x.x, it's a major upgrade and check the forum for the official announcement. At this point I say delete pihole and move on
