I added 3 million + domains to my block list and I'm getting very high ram usage. Show I be worried? Will this cause any slow downs?
How high is high? What's the output of free -m
?
Also, are you running anything else besides Pi-hole on your device?
Output is
total used free shared buffers cached
Mem: 733 699 33 15 36 71
-/+ buffers/cache: 592 140
Swap: 0 0 0
I do have retropie installed and Plex Media Server but the raspberry pi has been idle otherwise... No games running nothing transcoding... When I run htop I can see dnsmasq using very high memory.
The usage doesn't look that high to me based off of free
, but it's subjective. Have you noticed any performance issues because of the memory usage--in any of the running apps?
Yea I do agree it is subjective. But before I added the block list pihole was running about 23% used ram... Now it's in the low 80%'s
Other than remove that big blocklist I'm not sure how I can solve this matter
With the advent of FTL we have made great strides in reducing resource use and being more efficient with how we use resources. That being said it does stand to reason the more domain you block the more reources you will use.
The RegEx blocking introduced into 4.0 which is being released Soon™ should further help to reduce our reource usage.
I'm using Regex blocking myself and love it
However, I don't see how they help to reduce resource usage. This would require that all those many superfluous entries (e.g. the umpteen hundred entries for doubleclick) would be removed from the blocking lists. This could theoretically be done by Gravity if respective regex rules exist. But I don't think that's going to happen. Or am I missing something?
