'Ghost' clients in Dashboard

Pi-hole v5.1.2, RPi 4

Pi-hole is working fine but for each one of two specific laptops the Dashboard lists two clients. The IPs and MAC addresses are different, but from the traffic I can tell it's these two devices, not four. For each device, one client is like a 'ghost' client, in that it only connects for a few moments and then it disappears for hours or the rest of the day. Checking the timestamps, I think it may be connecting instead of the 'real' client for a few seconds only while the system is in the process of waking up. That doesn't explain the different MAC addresses though. Can someone explain this?

Different interfaces on the same device will have different MAC addresses. For example, WiFi and ethernet would be different MAC addresses.

Aha, so the laptops must connect over wifi first when they wake up and moments later through ethernet, which is precisely what has been happening. Thanks!
