Format of custom.list

Looking at using the feature of /etc/pihole/custom.list to easily add Local DNS Names to pihole installation. I have been using the HOWTO document on how to add Local DNS Name service in which the format of the lan.list file is:

192.168.1.40 marvin.your.lan marvin
192.168.1.41 eddie.your.lan eddie
192.168.1.42 hactar.your.lan hactar

Is this format compatible in the custom.list thereby the lan DNS List function in pihole?

Sorry for the question, but there isn't much doc yet for 5.0, and my review of the Beta Forum did not answer the question I have.

custom.list is in canonical hosts format. hosts(5) - Linux manual page

Your format will work but it will not display on http://pi.hole/admin/dns_records.php, only lines that have an IP and hostname without any aliases will show.

Edit: https://docs.pi-hole.net is up to date. Our documentation is open source as well, you can contribute any additional information you would like to see.
