Reading package lists... Done
E: Could not open lock file /var/lib/apt/lists/lock - open (13: Permission denied)
E: Unable to lock directory /var/lib/apt/lists/

W: Problem unlinking the file /var/cache/apt/srcpkgcache.bin - RemoveCaches (13: Permission denied)
That's the command I need you to run.
im sorry for taking up your time
This is an OS level issue. Fix this problem, and then the Pi-hole installer will continue normally. If apt update does not complete, the Pi-hole installer will stop.
This is probably a really quick fix. I just need you to type sudo apt-get update
and then let us know what the result of that is.
i got it fixed,thanks
but antoher question:
If i dont use a rasberry pi but instead my ubuntu desktop,do i just the the desktop IP
Im also going to be using the computer itself?is that possiblw
Yes. The Pi-hole instance will be running at this IP.
a bit of a problem;
it still keeps saying
Error: Unable to update package cache. Please try "apt-get update
Then you didn't get it fixed. What is the exact output from sudo apt-get update
?

It looks like you didn't remove the cdrom
line after installing using the iso image.
You'll need to edit /etc/apt/sources.list
and remove or comment out the cdrom
line.
Normally that happens during Ubuntu's setup but for some reason it did not complete for you.
ubutnu wont let me as 'i have no permissions 'even after i rooted
What command did you type to edit the file?
i managed to solve that problem but
1.When i go into any website after putting in the IP in the DNS
2.I dont know if it works
3.The admin dashboard doesnt work
I did the installation
What IP? Where did you put it?
To be honest, I'm not sure either.
What URL are you trying to use?
Can you run pihole -d
and provide the token URL that is printed after you accept uploading the logs to our secure server?
The IP i put in was my computers IP
