Error: Unable to install pi-hole dependency package

Please follow the below template, it will help us to help you!

Running pi-Hole on a RPi4B/4GB. I tried updating the system to latest version by running "sudo pihole -up"

Expected Behaviour: Expecting the update to complete normally

Actual Behaviour:

I get errors that the process is unable to complete due to unability to install pi-hole dependency package

Debug Token: https://tricorder.pi-hole.net/GgOlNb9P/

This usually means an OS level issue.

You are using an unsupported OS (Debian 10).

What was the dependency failing? Can you please post the message?

It is the same story as with other thread for updating to PiHole 6 while the OS was still on v10. I have since setup a new SD with RasPi OS v12 and all is working fine.

Thank you!

Can you explain this in detail? Do I have to install and setup pihole completely from zero on a new SD-card?

I have seen comments on the web suggesting not to do an RPi stepped OS version upgrade from Debian v10 to v12 on the same SD but rather use a new one for a fresh installation. As I had a spare one, I opted doing it this way.

Usually installing a fresh Debian 12 will be faster than upgrading 10 to 12.

!!! WARNING !!!

You can't upgrade from Debian 10 to any newer version because the /boot partition is too small !!

!!! WARNING !!!

However upgrading from Debian 11 to Debian 12 should be doable despite not being recommended by the folks from The Raspberry Pi Foundation
