Downloading and Installing FTL

Hi All,

Is there a reason why this section, takes quite some time to download and then complete ?

[i] FTL Checks...

[✓] Detected AArch64 (64 Bit ARM) architecture
[i] FTL binary already installed, verifying integrity...
[✗] Remote binary is different, downloading...
[✓] Downloading and Installing FTL
[✓] Installing scripts from /etc/.pihole

This message is printed before the installer starts a sequence of processes to check, download and install FTL.

The first step is FTLcheckUpdate(), where it checks if FTL needs to be updated, comparing the local FTL with the remote one.

If the local version needs to be updated, then FTLinstall() will download and install the new version.

If you are noticing this step is taking a long time to complete, it could be related to a slow machine, a slow internet connection or some other network issue, but we never noticed any unexpected delay.

How long does it take in your case?

The network is fast, however Pi-hole does run on Raspberry Pi 4.

Next time the update comes around, I'll time the process and let you know.

Thanks for the feedback.

Roughly 13 mins

13 minutes in total or between specific of the steps you've quoted above:

?

Sorry for the delay in answering, just this section of the process, average time range from 10 to 13 mins.

Given, I can download a 1 gig file in roughly 2–4 mins, depending on Internet traffic.

hello, I have exactly the same issue. did you find the root-cause ?

It is unlikely you are having the exact same issue, because this issue is more than 1 year old and a few new versions were released. A lot has changed.

Please start a new topic describing the issue and include any error messages. Also, remember to tell us if this is a new installation or an update.

The issue was solved when I removed the old filters and regexes, did a complete cleanup of pi.hole, and this took hours. No need for a reinstall or repair, now the issue has disappeared.

Hope this method is helpful. Somewhere along the line, there might have been a regex that impeded the action of the FTL download, we'll never know.
