Dnscrypt -- do i really need it?

so, as I am working on my network setup, I came across DNSCrypt.

I like the idea of it, but im wondering do I really need it?

My setup consists of a Pi 2 running pi hole and OpenVPN as a server.

A pi3 running Kodi and home assistant.

When using Kodi I connect to Private Internet Access VPN

I have multiple devices on my network that are pretty much connected to the interwebs all the time, i.e xbox one, smart TV, SKy TV box, various phones and tablets, Google home and chromecast(s)

I dial into my network via OpenVPN using a DuckDNS domain.

I access my network whilst away mainly to maintain, but also to access Home Assistant to 'check' on the house, toggle lights, etc. I do this by connecting to vpn and browsing to http://<my.pi.addres>:port

Is encrypted DNS really necessary or is it over kill?

What are the real life benefits in a very basic minimal setup like mine?

Most people don't use dnscrypt, and it's only "necessary" if you are really concerned about security or that you can't trust your upstream DNS servers.

That's kind of what I suspected.

My upstream servers are Google and I'm behind my router firewall, so I guess I'm pretty safe.
