Sorry - another beginners question. In my DNS settings Google is sellected as chosen during the initial setup. I notice IPv6 is not selected. Is there a reason for this. My ISP is Plusnet in the UK if that is relevant. Is Google selected as default because it is the best or would OpenDNS better/worse?
Thanks!
Choosing a DNS server is a personal preference.
Any default selection does not imply any valuation at all.
If you care about specific properties of your DNS server (resolution speed, latency availabilty, privacy, filtering, support of certain features, etc.), opt for the one that best matches your preferences.
If you don't, you may probably just stick with the default.
That is a sane default.
Stating both IPv4 and IPv6 addresses for the same DNS machine would be redundant.
A DNS server can answer A records (for IPv4) as well as AAAA records (for IPV6) regardless of the transport IP protocol.
Many thanks for your quick reply
