Delay in loading sites

The issue I am facing:
I’ve been seeing intermittent delays in loading sites for some time now.
When I type in a browser search bar (any device, mac or ios) or click a link there is a several second delay before anything loads. Sometimes it’s up to 8-10 seconds.

Details about my system:
I have used PiHole in my current config for several years.
Topology:
Xfinity Modem > Firewalla Gold > Pi4 w/ Pihole on one Eth port as its own “Pihole”network segment (per Firewalla rec) which runs in the 192.168.1.x IP pool, and Eero Pro6 units in AP mode on another Eth port with a network segment I called “Home” which runs in the 192.168.2.x IP pool.
– Everything in Firewalla settings points all devices to DNS at 192.168.1.10 (my pi4).
– Pi has assigned IP at the Firewalla
– Cloudflare is set as the upstream DNS
– Pi runs Pihiole, PiVPN and Homebridge, don’t think it’s doing anything else as far as I recall.
– Everything up to date

Any suggestions related or unrelated to my issue are welcome and appreciated. Thank you.

Its possible your internet connection has issues. If I recall xfininty has a way to test your connection from the account page.

You can also open a terminal and run dig you want to test and see how long its taking to resolve the name ( Query Time ). Run it a few times. First one should be the longest then it should drop to almost 0 after its cached.

traceroute or its windows equivilent can give you some info as can pinging a site you visit and watching for timeouts ( continuous ping, look for timeouts and long responses ).

Firewalla Gold monitors the connection for drops, packet loss and speed.

Showing some occasional packet loss at .5% here and there but doesn’t at all align with time times I’ve seen the alert
