Does anyone here know of a curated list that blocks browser-based online games?
As a parent of 2 young kids its a constant wack-a-mole with online games. We only have parental control on personal devices, school devices have been a challenge!
My aim is to use pi-hole to block access to these sites. Is there a maintained list that does this? I know several parents who are in the same boat. I understand this is not a perfect solution, but every little bit of friction helps steer them toward their actual schoolwork.
You will likely also need a way to force the devices to use Pi-hole. Perhaps you’ve got this in control, and if so, the children never figure out a way to get around whatever you have in place. For instance, I can configure my Windows PC to use whatever DNS server I want.
You might not have much luck with school devices, unless you have control of those.
Some networking equipment can intercept DNS traffic, and redirect it to Pi-hole. If the children have, or get access to cellular, that could present another issue if the devices can act as personal hotspots, and use cellular data to access the internet.
Good luck, and hope they don’t figure out ways around whatever controls you put in place, or have friends who help them do so.
