CONNECTION_ERROR TCP connection failed (Operation in progress)
After upgrading to v6, I'm receiving the above error on both of my DNS servers.
Is the error reporting new?
I am seeing this as well after updating to v6
i never received a response to my log upload and im seeing the issue posted elsewhere. so for now, im staying with v5.

Yes, it is.
The condition may have been present with v5 installations all along, but it wouldn't have been reported, and thus perhaps could be ignored.
But it may also have been triggered by pihole-FTL being based on the newest version of dnsmasq, which introduced a new mIxEd case/0x20 encoding feature which turned out to cause issues with certain upstream DNS services like cloudflared.
Even if you don't use cloudfared, please try setting misc.dnsmasq_lines under Settings | All settings » Miscellaneous to contain no-0x20-encode.
All settings is available in Expert mode only.

i made the changes about 20 hours ago. no issues before i went to sleep last night. but im seeing the connection error, consistently, again this am.
