Change hostname that is displayed in web GUI

Hi All,

I just reinstalled pihole in a debain container on proxmox and am trying to change the name that appears in the gui.

I’ve tried updating /etc/hostname and changing the name via hostnamectl but they just revert back after rebooting. I’ve tried flushing DNS to no avail. I’m wanting to change the name so it matches the container name in Proxmox. Most of the search results I found refer to raspi-config and docker solutions, neither of which are options since this is not a raspberry pi or docker install. I know it can be done because I did it on my secondary pihole, but can’t for the life of me remember how I did it.

You need to change that on the OS, or maybe somewhere in Proxmox configuration.

Thanks for the reply. I am changing it in the OS (hostnamectl) but as soon as I reboot the name reverts back. The name in Proxmox is the name I’m trying to change it to.

So this seems to be some sort of weird Proxmox thing. I changed the hostname under DNS in Proxmox to something else (leaving the container name the same) and now the hostname shows as the container name.
