I could be wrong but i'm 99% sure ads were blocked in android apps such as MX Player prior to the release of 2.10. I think even youtube was blocking ads but had the 10 sec delay.
Am i mistaken? If so is there a list for Android ads?
Apps like adaway do a great job and i see those list work with pihole but they are a little to good and block to much.
The Android ads are like website ads, just in apps. The default lists block most of those ads, website or Android. Video ads like Youtube's are hard to block for a variety of reasons, mainly because (last I checked) Youtube ads are hosted under the same domain as the video content and some video ads (on platforms like Hulu) are sent to the client as part of the content.
Are Android ads not being blocked after updating?
I see ads on my Pixel, particularly in Griddlers Plus (maybe just because I've been playing it a lot lately). I've cleared the phone's cache and rebooted, but I still see in-app ads. Any ideas?
Check the Query Log on the web interface and look at the queries made by that device. Blacklist any domains you think are hosting the ads. Alternatively open the Tail pihole.log page (or run pihole -t) and check the queries in real-time. I don't think it can be done in any easier way.
Hmm. I did tail -f /var/log/pihole.og | grep --line-buffered "ip.of.my.phone" for a while. At first I didn't see an ad, but after a little bit I did, but didn't see anything in the output. I less-ed the log just to make sure, and while I did see a few lines after I started tailing it, they were only hits to wo.vzwwo.com, which seems to be something to do with my carrier, Verizon.
Some Android apps store ads offline as well, which is why we can't block all Android ads. In my experience most apps have their ads blocked successfully.
I'm aware of that, which is why I cleared the phone's cache. I haven't been able to determine if that clears each app's individual cache, but I do still see ads even after clearing a couple apps' individual caches. Perhaps they're downloading apps in the background when I'm not on my home network?
Oh, I thought by "store offline" you meant "download and cache". I wasn't aware apps came bundled with ads; that's crappy. Thanks for the clarification.
You can install pro version of mx player. No need to block ads. because, if you try to block ads, you will still see blank poups if you connect to internet.
