Vendor in Clientlist incorrect

I just noticed that some of the vendors in known client list is wrong. That does not seem to be a big problem, but it confuses me.

For instance:

Bildschirmfoto 2026-05-31 um 18.44.00
is actually an ipad by apple and not a hue product

is actually my pi with pihole and not a sonos product.

I use trixie on a pi 4. Pihole is up to date and using unbound. Conditional forwarding is active.

Please check the devices on the Tools > Network page and post here the first half of their MAC addresses.

I only need the first half:

00:11:22:33:44:55

00:11:22 <= like this

That would be
Ipad: ee:74:a1

For the pi-hole it just says:

This MAC address does not belong to any registered block (not Apple, nor Sonos Inc). It's just a fake address.

You can search your addresses using a lookup service, like:

Apparently your device is using MAC randomization, creating temporary general (and fake) addresses to increase privacy. Maybe one of the random addresses created on the past was part of the Sonos Inc block and this was stored in the database.

If you really want to see the correct vendors on the table, you will need to disable MAC randomization for all of your devices on your local network and then you can flush the network table to start using the new (and real) MAC addresses.

I could have gotten the same idea. Right, sirry for asking. Bus why is the pihole not showing a macadresd?

Sorry, I don't understand your question.
You said before that Pi-hole was showing a MAC address.

No it is just showing some ip-based adress… ip-192.168.188.70 (see picture above)

I think Pihole can only show what it's provided; I have a few devices in my network that show "mock" (fake) MAC addresses like, for example, ip-192.168.20.8 Liteon Technology Corporation (a Google Hub device in this case).

However, other devices show the actual MAC address, like f2:63:19:47:28:58
Liteon Technology Corporation (an Apple iPhone w/random MAC address in this case)
. So it's dependent on the client device.

If you hover over your device's "Hardware Address" showing ip-192.168.188.70, it will proably pop up a box that says "Mock MAC Address."
