[UPDATE] The best blocking lists for the Pi-Hole + Alternative DNS servers 2019

Will it become slower when using more blocking entries ?

It will a nice option to see witch files are being used or hit so you can clean up your config.

Would be better with static IP’s http://128.199.249.212/allhosts
I disable the cloud pihole with 127.0.01 under custom to avoid feed back when server is young.

For https://raw.githubusercontent.com/CHEF-KOCH/CKs-FilterList/master/Anti-Corp/hosts/NSABlocklist.txt, GitHub as blocked (or removed) this repository due to DMCA since 2019-03-05.

Link : https://github.com/github/dmca/blob/master/2019/03/2019-03-05-WindowsSpyBlocker.md.

I understand, I have searched and found another list similar to CHEF-KOCH, this is

https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Cauchon/NSABlocklist-pi-hole-edition/master/HOSTS%20(including%20excessive%20GOV%20URLs)

These are the updated lists that I use today, I have an Orange Pi One with these lists the use of RAM does not exceed more than 25% and blocking approx. 40-50% nd false positives are very rare

I am blocked from adding your link ‘Status: Connection Refused’ I was doing some updates and I had to re-add a couple of times am I just out of luck and have to wait a week?

If you run into the max downloads per day (this should never happen unless you’re doing something out of the ordinary). You can reset the download counter yourself by opening the link in your browser (use the same connection your pi-hole uses) and solving a reCaptcha.

Also, download counts reset each update (at least once every 24 hours) so waiting a day also works.

I’ve reset it manually now, so it should work for you now, without having to do any of the above.

I’m now using your blacklist and all seems good except today I tried to download a ubuntu iso from http://www.mirrorservice.org/ and it got blocked. I know I can add to my whitelist but wondered whether it might not be needed in your blacklist ?

Fixed, Thanks
Also, this is not the place to report false positives on my blocklist, you need to be here: https://redd.it/bppug1 for that.

thank you for this information.

[sjhgvr]Thanks for your Blacklist, but I tried to open http://www.bild.de and now this site recognize that I use an adblocker. with the Original blacklist from pihole this this works fine, also without adds. What is the reason?, could you please help witout changing my whitelist. When I put this site to the whitelist I get adds again, right?

I have spent the last couple days compiling Blocklists into fewer, but larger lists. Feel free to check them out https://github.com/nicholasb2101/PiHole. I deserve none of the credit, all of it goes to the original creators of the lists, I only hope to provide an easier means to view/using/customizing them.

Please note that these are more generalized lists. I personally recommend them and use them along with the whitelist provided.

Is the list down? Recently updated and saw this when it failed.

[i] Target: dbl.oisd.nl ()
[✗] Status: Connection Refused
[✗] List download failed: no cached list available

You will need to put https:// in front of that domain for Pi-Hole to load the list.

Weird, I didn’t catch that… I have had the list loaded for months now and after the latest pihole update it must have removed it… I just noticed in the terminal it failed so I went to investigate.

It is listed with the right URL let me check if it’s still failing

Edit: it’s working again must have just been a fluke, thanks for the help!

Great job man! Thanks a lot!

Do you still update this post? What’s about localized list (FR for example)?

Right now, in addition to yours, I use those lists:

Here you have a collection of letters to Pi-Hole, I collected from various websites.

Thnx for this list!

I’m looking forward to see some more updates
