Actual Behaviour:

pi-hole refused to connect, lighttpd daemon failed seems to be the issue.

Thanks, I have just installed the 2019-04-08 build of raspbian (stretch?) and it works just as expected now.

No, I'm using Raspberry PI zero W, and I have it working now by using an older build of the raspbian (stretch/ 04-08-2019 build). only issue I have is the one click install doesn't work on my PI for some reason (writing body error), but

wget -O basic-install.sh https://install.pi-hole.net
sudo bash basic-install.sh

works.
